Why Code Academy Co-Founder Mike McGee Chose To Teach People To Code Instead Of Working For The President

by Tim Jahn on February 16, 2012

Mike McGee is the co-founder of Code Academy, an 11 week intensive program in Chicago that teaches people from all over the world how to program Ruby on Rails.  Mike and his co-founder had the opportunity to join the software development team for Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, but turned down the offer to start Code Academy.

In this interview, Mike and I chat about:

  • why Mike chose Code Academy over joining the President’s team
  • creating the builder’s movement
  • why Code Academy was started
  • the importance of teaching people to code
  • and much more!
